Cross Country Soaring Continues

August tends to be a slow month for the soaring community in Minden and we're never sure quite why because the weather is usually ideal for cross country flying. It's true there's usually not as much moisture in the air so we don't get as many cloud markers, but that also means less overdevelopment. June and July were unusual months because we had so much moisture and more overdevelopment than usual, but the skies are blue now. Even the smoke from the fire in Santa Cruz has left us.

More importantly, the thermals are still booming like they were in June and July. So if you're just sitting around for a few days and wondering what the soaring is like, well either give us a call at 775 782-9595, or email us back at and get yourself up in the air.

Elsewhere on this website you'll find a link to Pat Alford's blog. Follow that link and you'll find a long and very exciting post about some sensational cross country flights Pat made out of Minden during our cross country lead & follow week. Thanks for the nice post, Pat! It's fun to share our best flights, and you not only share them you also describe them in a way that makes our mouth water to get up in the air too.
